Scar Maps
My scars are my old weather.
Where my storms were.
Where my body, heart, and life did what it had to - to survive.
I carry teaching scar tissue too—school scars, family scars, failure scars, burnout scars.
I don’t need to romanticize them.
But I also don’t have to act like they taught me nothing.
Your scar map:
One scar I carry has taught me ______.
See you in class,
J

Scars as maps and old weather. Dude, you're a poet.

Times when I made this mistake as a young teacher will forever live rent-free in my head.
