Monopoly Money
How the system's converting its resource lack into your character flaw
Imagine converting Monopoly money.
You scrounge your back closet for the game.
Grab all the (monopoly) money.
Head to your ATM.
Insert “cash”,
Voila! It spits back “real” 500s, 100s and 50s
Wouldn’t that be great? Especially with gas at $5/gallon.
Our school system does this magic trick every day.
It converts its (system) resource problem into (our) character problem.
Ever heard, “You need to be more flexible”?
Imagine, instead the principal saying, “I know this is more responsibility, so I’m freeing you up (less duties or meetings or more money) to do it well.” Imagine that.
Instead, he says (system) crap like, “I love how reslient you are”.
Notice the system’s rigidity = my flexibility?
The system’s resource accountability goes down while my responsibility just went up.
Hit reply and finish this: “Instead of being resilient, what I really need is…”
See you in class,
J
